Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

Q: Do I need an appointment, or do you accept walk-ins?

A: We welcome walk-ins when availability allows, but appointments are always recommended to ensure your artist has time to prepare your design and give you their full attention.

Q: How do I book an appointment?

A: You will be able to book directly through our website once we have that part of our website, message us on social media, or stop by the shop in person.

Q: What forms of payment do you accept?

A: We accept cash, debit/credit cards, and digital payments. Please note that all deposits are non-refundable and go toward the final cost of your tattoo.

Q: Is there a shop minimum?

A: Yes — our shop minimum is $80, which covers setup, sterilization, and professional-grade materials used during your tattoo.

Before Your Tattoo

Q: How should I prepare for my tattoo session?

A: Get a full night’s rest, eat a solid meal beforehand, and stay hydrated. Avoid alcohol or blood thinners for 24 hours prior. Wear comfortable clothing that gives easy access to the area being tattooed.

Q: Can I bring someone with me?

A: You’re welcome to bring a friend for support, but please keep in mind that space is limited and the artist needs room to work.

Q: Can I get tattooed if I’m under 18?

A: Yes. We do tattoo with parental constent under 18. A valid government-issued photo ID is required for all clients as well as a birth certificate for the minor.

During the Tattoo

Q: Does it hurt?

A: Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but most clients describe it as a scratching or burning sensation — uncomfortable, but manageable. We’ll take breaks as needed.

Q: How long will my tattoo take?

A: It depends on the size, placement, and detail of your design. Your artist will give you a time estimate during your consultation.

Q: Can I use numbing cream?

A: Some products can affect how the skin takes ink, so please talk to your artist before applying anything.

Aftercare & Healing

Q: How do I take care of my new tattoo?

A: We’ll send you home with detailed aftercare instructions. Generally: keep it clean, wash gently with fragrance-free soap, avoid scratching or soaking, and stay out of the sun until fully healed.

Q: How long does the healing process take?

A: Surface healing usually takes 2–3 weeks, but full skin recovery can take up to 6 weeks depending on your body and aftercare routine.

Q: My tattoo looks cloudy or flaky — is that normal?

A: Yes! Your tattoo will go through several healing stages, including peeling and slight dullness. This is normal — avoid picking and let your skin do its thing.

Design & Custom Work

Q: Can you design a custom tattoo for me?

A: Absolutely. Bring your ideas, reference images, or rough sketches and we’ll create a design that fits your vision and placement perfectly.

Q: Do you do cover-ups or reworks?

A: Yes! Our artists are experienced in cover-up and rework projects. We’ll need to see your existing tattoo in person to create a plan that gives you the best result.

Q: Can I bring my own design?

A: Of course. We’ll review it and make any small adjustments necessary to ensure it translates well as a tattoo.

Specials & Sessions

Q: What is a “tap out” session?

A: Our tap-out sessions are all-day or set-hour sessions where you can get as much tattoo work as you can handle in one sitting — perfect for larger pieces or multiple smaller tattoos.

Q: Do you offer flash or seasonal specials?

A: Definitely! Red Beard Body Art runs themed flash events and holiday specials throughout the year — check our social media or website homepage for current promotions.
